Day 17 – The Shirt Off My Back
They say that you wear 20% of your clothes 80% of the time. The proverbial “they” are a lot of wise people and the 80/20 rule may hold the keys to many future simplifications.
For now, we’ll stick to the obvious. I pledged to come home and throw away a garment that is in the 80% that theoretically I rarely wear. I did that quite easily – one shirt in the bin. What did strike me however was that there was a good chunk of my wardrobe which, while I concede that I don’t wear that often, wouldn’t be so easy to throw away. There is some attachment to some older gear, and the classic “I might wear it one day” syndrome. So I’ve decided to organise myself going forward so that clothes get put back at one end of the rail (after wearing or washing), which will mean that unworn clothes will collect at the other end. Might be an easier conversation with myself next time I decide to target the wardrobe!
